I LOVE THIS!! No matter which team you barrack for or your thoughts about Tex or Rory... this genuine care for another human is beautiful to see! As a man in his late 30's who grew up in late 90's early 2000's this emotion between two men wasn't celebrated, it was ridiculed. Two men embracing or showing affection was seen as weak and usually followed with an expletive attacking someone's sexual orientation! I love that today, these two have no issue showing the bond, the friendship and the love they have for each other... as friends, as mates, as brothers... genuinely connected with love, support and admiration. Not enough of us do this! I guarantee right now there is a someone in your life, a friend, a family member or maybe a team mate, and all they want or need is some love, a hug, or even just a thank you! Men's mental health has some alarming statistics attached to it and if we all just took a little leaf out of Tex's book, imagine the change we could be a part of. Show vulnerability! Tell someone how much you love them regardless of their gender and show your love unashamedly! On 23rd May I'm hosting a table at a Men's, Meals and Mental Health dinner all about this, starting conversations, getting around each other and being there for each other. Although Koala Kids is a volunteer-driven organisation, we also require the support of one full-time employee (now 1.4FTE!) to help keep things running smoothly across the week in the office and doing lots of behind-the-scenes admin tasks. Trying to find the right full-time person with the energy, passion and right fit for Koala Kids proved no mean feat! We are so appreciative of the wonderful work of SMAART Recruitment, in particular Maarten Roosenburg and Ella Anderson, for their pro bono services in helping us find a new full-time administration assistant. Alycia (pictured middle) started at Koala Kids a few weeks ago and seems to be really happy learning the ropes and the happy comings and goings of our crazy office! For the past six years Jess Bucci has been our sole employee (pictured right for those of you who know her by name but don't recognize her face!). Earlier this year, Jess accepted an exciting new role at ANZCHOG (Australian & New Zealand Children's Haematology/Oncology Group) as communications and marketing coordinator. Jess has remained an integral and valued member at Koala Kids and is enjoying achieving a happy balance between her two days at Koala Kids and three days at ANZCHOG.  Maya Arnold (pictured left) joined us in a salaried part-time position to assist Jess and Mandy while we were quietly looking for a full-time replacement. She has been a really happy member of the team and we are so grateful for the support she provided while we were undergoing the recruitment process. We are so pleased that Maya has chosen to continue her studies, a business and marketing degree, booked overseas travel in June and to remain with us as a volunteer when her salaried role finishes this week. #koalakids #webelievehappyhelps
