Real Life Safety from Real Life People

About us

Safety Programs, Presentations, Safety Talks, Inductions and conferences. We know we should attend, we know we should pay attention, we're told the information could save our lives. But it's hardly riveting stuff but CNB Safe Speakers offers workplaces something different As James puts it, "It was supposed to be a normal day, I got up, I went to work and came home again 9 months later." Workplace accidents always seem to happen to other people. We think we are indestructible, we tell ourselves “it will never happen to me.” For many thousands of years we have shared stories, long before the internet & Google we have shared information in the form of a story or a tale. CNBSafe Safety Speakers have adapted this approach in the way that we deliver information to your business. At CNBSafe Safety Speakers we have an injured worker or family member that can visit your workplace or safety conference and share their safety messages and experiences with your people! Our Safety Speakers are willing to help you on your safety journey by telling how an injury or fatality changed their lives and affected many other people. Remember "with the right kind of information you can make the right choices."

We have been working with The Safety Guru, Eric Michrowski for a couple of years now. Eric understands Safety and he understands People. Recently Eric had a chat with Dr Lana C. who's husband Charlie was killed at work, leaving her with two young children. Lana's world will never be the same, and she now works to share her story so that no one has to go through losing a loved one to a workplace incident. Thanks to KyoungHee Choi for arranging our chats with Eric, have a listen to the chat between Lana & Eric by clicking on the link below. #cnbsafe #lanacormie #thesafetyguru #safetyspeakers #speakers

Workplace incidents are more than just statistics or distant tragedies you hear about on the news, they’re a real risk to everyday work life and should be treated as such. One of the problems with work-related injuries is the profound ripple effect it has on the people you love. We often consider the person directly affected, and don’t stop to think how their loved ones are doing. Donna Weston, the wife of CNB Safe Speaker, Michael Weston, has a unique perspective on this matter. While she did not experience the death of a loved one, Michael’s Acquired Brain Injury turned her world upside down. To learn more about Donna’s perspective, read our full blog here: bit.ly/3JJkI3m

When the City of Whittlesea contacted CNB Safe to invite James Wood - 'Woody' to share his Choices message at their Leadership Summit we knew it was going to have an impact. They put some much time and effort into creating this event and as James shares below...they definitely made a difference.

I get to share my story at a lot of workplaces. If I'm totally honest with you, some of them are just ticking a box to say that they have provided a "Safety" session. Others however do it for genuine reasons to change their team's perspective and understanding of what safety is all about. I recently worked with the leadership group at the City of Whittlesea. Prior to their 2 Day Leadership Summit I talked to Andrea Whitelaw who is the Unit Manager for Organisational Development at the council. We discussed the content of the summit and how my message might help them to understand how important their roles are. On the day of the summit I was a little nervous, presenting to a large group of managers and leaders is a little overwhelming. However, the session was received really well and we had some amazing interactions about safety and also how they can make a difference. This is what I love about what I do, if I can change even one person's understanding of how the choices we make can influence others, it is all worth it. Thank you Andrea and the City of Whittlesea for making a difference to others' lives. #cnbsafe #cityofwhittlesea #leadershipsummit #safety #safetyspeaker #workplacesafety CNB Safe

Over the years Woody’s been asked many, many questions about his struggles and what life has been like since his incident. To help answer some of these questions, Woody wrote a book. ‘12 Reasons NOT to get hurt at work’ is available as an eBook, Audiobook, and as a physical copy (in both full and ‘clean’ versions). While there are more than 12 reasons, this book should challenge the choices you make at work. Learn from this so you don’t have to learn firsthand. One of the problems with work-related injuries is the profound ripple effect it has on the people you love. We often don’t consider the loss people have that are close to the one affected, or what their experience was like. In this month's blog we take a look at loss from the perspective of Donna Weston, the wife of CNB Safe Speaker Michael Weston. To read the blog, click the link below: https://bit.ly/49GJqMk

Workers Memorial Day in Carlton today, Sad to see so many empty shoes. Each one was once filled by a person that didn't get to go home from work!

I attended the Workers Memorial Day in Carlton today, a day to remember those killed and injured at work. As a visible and emotional tribute the VICTORIAN TRADES HALL COUNCIL places a pair of footwear on a stool for each of the 55 workers that didn't get to go home in the last 12 months in Victoria! As each workers name was read out and a brief description of how the worker was killed, I found myself getting quite emotional. What I also found heartening was that there were representatives from the union,(incl Luke Hilakari, Wil Stracke) representatives from Worksafe (Joe Calafiore, Dr. Narelle Beer) and various government representatives present, families and friends of injured and killed workers. Including some good friends Dr Lana C. and Dave Brownlee......but we all have the same objectives. TO STOP PEOPLE GETTING HURT AND KILLED AT WORK! Stay Safe Australia. Had a great day with the teams from Vanderlande yesterday. I love it when I get to share my story with workplaces that are looking for ways to continue to work safely. Brendon Pippin wanted his people to continue to work safely and to look out for each other, so I was happy to be involved in his safety day. We had some great questions and discussions about safety and the impact of getting hurt at work. Great job everyone

Huge shout out to Brendon Pippin from Vanderlande for inviting me to share my thoughts and story with your teams. We had a great group of people "Live" and other team members joined in "On-line". Distribution Centres are a hive of activity, and if a machine or a line stops it can create huge backlogs, so these teams keep things going so we can receive our products when we need them. ...But not at the expense of someone getting hurt. It was great to see that the Vanderlande crews put safety first. Thanks to everyone for making my visit so great and to Freddie for making sure I got out ok. Stepping into the classroom! Earlier this year we worked alongside VALA (Vocational Applied Learning Association) and developed two resources for an integrated VCE VM project for both Year 11 and Year 12 students in Victorian Schools. The basis for these programs was Woody's book 'It Hurts! -12 Reasons NOT To Get Hurt': https://bit.ly/4aJCQ9o This 16 week program is centred around a structured learning course involving young people working in groups, designing, implementing, and evaluating their own Safety and Disability Expo. We were thrilled to be working on this joint venture with VALA and are excited to continue working with the next generation in the classroom. Already we have had several schools commit to using these resources with their students and have invited Woody to speak to their students. If you know any educators/teachers/schools that you think would be interested in these great programs for their students please visit our website to learn more here: https://bit.ly/4aJCQ9o Access to the program is available to members of VALA, you can join at any time: https://bit.ly/3JuW9XY We want to prepare the next generation of workers and help them better understand disabilities and safety. Let's get our kids thinking Safety before they start work.
