Supporting young people impacted by cancer
About us
We get it. Just when life should be full of possibilities, cancer crashes into a young person’s world and shatters everything. Canteen is the game changer. We help young people cope with cancer in their family. Through Canteen, they learn to explore and deal with their feelings about cancer, connect with other young people in the same boat and if they’ve been diagnosed themselves, we provide specialist, youth-specific treatment teams. By feeling understood and supported, young people develop resilience and can rebuild the foundations that crumbled beneath them when cancer turned their life upside down. That’s how Canteen is the difference. (ABN: 77 052 040 516)

Our Executive Director of Services, Sandy Cham, recently appeared on The Morning Show to discuss the impact of cancer on younger people and the importance of having open and honest conversations about cancer with your family. “Families that talk openly, consistently and regularly about cancer adjust better and they have less distress. Our young people come to us saying they need more information and they want to hear it from their parents.” Sandy also speaks about life beyond cancer and the power of connection; “Connecting with those who just get it is probably the most powerful thing.” 💚 Watch the full segment here: https://lnkd.in/grGz-X9C #CancerSupport #YouthCancer #CancerDiagnosis

Recently our Executive Director of Operations, Raul Alberto Caceres sat down with Cathy O'Sullivan, CIO editor-in-chief for APAC and host of #CIOLeadershipLive, to discuss Canteen's donor prediction model, how we create value from data, and employing AI to improve services to support young people impacted by cancer. “It’s a combination of getting really technical, then talking to the stakeholders about their concerns, and then slowly building a roadmap to democratise the data held in databases. That’s the conversation, so everyone in the organisation can understand what the data tells them.” To read more or watch the interview, visit https://lnkd.in/g6m7JtiQ
