Did you know that all wireless communications rely on radio frequency or "spectrum" (measured in megahertz bands, such as 850MHz or 2100MHz). Spectrum is a fixed resource. The amount available to use is determined by the physics of radio waves. Telcos buy access to "lots" of spectrum that they use to build their network, but once a band is full, that's it. We can't add more. This is the reason why Australia's 3G networks are shutting down in stages. Vodafone was the first company to switch off its network, shutting it down between December 2023 and January 2024. Telstra will follow, with all its 3G services ending on June 30, 2024, while Optus will be the last to shut its 3G doors in September 2024. And all these things - liberty, security, opportunity, the privileges of citizenship - we owe to those men who fought, endured, suffered, and died for us and for their country. Their deeds and their sacrifices gave us the invincible, the intangible, the Spirit of ANZAC. They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
