Yesterday, we celebrated the official opening of our new home for community services in Whyalla! Our new headquarters on Moran Street is now home to our mental health and NDIS services, along with Wesley Social Enterprises (WSE). We're excited to expand our presence in this region, where we've been supporting the community since 1990. A huge thank you to Member for Giles, Eddie Hughes MP, City of Whyalla Mayor Phil Stone, and the UnitingSA Board for joining us at the opening event. Find out more here: https://lnkd.in/gqkDCeMd

UnitingSA representatives joined over 2,800 attendees to listen, learn and reflect at this morning's National Reconciliation Week Breakfast. A moving tribute to Lowitja O'Donoghue, compelling address by Adam Briggs, and reflection on the Voice to Parliament campaign were highlights for our team. Thank you to Reconciliation SA for bringing people together from far and wide for this special event. Now more than ever, we remain committed to tackling the unfinished business of reconciliation.  #NRW2024

Yesterday, we celebrated the sod turning for Uniting on Second, our largest affordable housing development to date. Delivered in partnership with Renewal SA, this project will provide 70 affordable homes to a diverse range of South Australians, including essential workers, first home buyers, small families, individuals, and downsizers. Located in Bowden, it offers easy access to public transport, Adelaide’s CBD, and a variety of high-quality local amenities. To mark the official beginning of construction, a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony was performed by Senior Kaurna Man, Mickey Kumatpi O'Brien, to bless the site. Due to open in 2025, Uniting on Second reflects our ongoing commitment to creating positive housing outcomes for the South Australian community. Thank you to the Hon. Nick Champion, South Australian Minister for Housing and Urban Development, Housing Infrastructure and Planning, for launching the ceremony alongside our CEO, Jenny H. and Board Chair, Gael Fraser. Thanks also to our Housing team for their hard work on the project so far. We are grateful to project partners Kennett Builders, City Collective and TAARNBY™️. Thanks to all of our guests for supporting yesterday’s event, including those from Renewal SA, Housing SA, Community Housing Industry Association of South Australia, Steve Georganas, Federal Member for Adelaide, and Councillor Edgar Agius, as well as our board members. Stay tuned for project updates over the coming year. For more information, please visit: https://lnkd.in/gNKYUmsm

Today we stand against the discrimination, violence and repression of LGBTIQA+ communities on the International Day Against Homophobia, Biophobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT).  At UnitingSA, we're committed to creating a workplace and organisation where everyone feels safe, valued, and celebrated for who they are. We recognise that inclusion is an ongoing journey and we are dedicated to taking small steps every day to ensure that everyone in our community feels a sense of belonging. Together, let's continue to stand up for equality and celebrate diversity. 💜 #IDAHOBIT2024

We welcome the Federal Budget initiatives aimed at improving the wellbeing, support, and security of vulnerable people across South Australia. For our communities the good news in the budget includes: ➤ Some cost of living relief in the form of energy bill rebates ➤ Modest rent assistance increases ➤ Cheaper medicines ➤ Funds for emergency and food relief and financial counselling. We are also pleased with the government’s decision to: ➤ Make the Leaving Violence Program permanent, building on the success of the extended pilot program in which we have been actively involved. ➤ Invest billions in new funding for the building of social and affordable housing, creating much needed homes. ➤ Fund a pay rise for aged care workers and additional workforce initiatives to help support, attract and retain aged care staff. ➤ Provide funding for an additional 24,000 homecare packages. As everyday South Australians face ongoing challenges, we stand behind measures that will make a difference to thousands of individuals and families. We will continue to advocate for policies and initiatives that create a better and fairer future for the most vulnerable in our community. 🔗 Read our latest media release: https://lnkd.in/d3ZgPwUW #AusPol #Budget2024

To mark the beginning of National Families Week, we'd like to thank our team members, partners and supporters who are working hard to improve the lives of families.  Whether that's through providing care for an older person or someone with a disability, those experiencing financial hardship or families at risk of homelessness - helping families to thrive is at the heart of what we do. #NFW2024 #TogetherWeCan

We love when our services come together to achieve great outcomes! Recently, our Financial Counselling team presented to the Independent Living Skills group (an initiative of our Homeless Prevention Program) at Taperoo Community Centre. Case Manager, Nick, says "the groups have been a great success for clients. We really try to hone in on people’s strengths. We combine individual and group-based activities to empower and build people’s capacity." We're so lucky to have a diverse range of services and team members who believe in the power of collaboration. Thanks to all involved. 🙌
