To better define the RESPECT Framework we created to deliver our support coordination services, we developed several guiding principles that articulate the cornerstones of best practice. Focus on the Role – While many of our support coordinators are highly qualified professionals such as psychologists and social workers, it is essential to acknowledge that they primarily serve as support coordinators. Moving beyond the scope of this role can potentially cause harm to the individuals we support. At Carfi, we recognize the limitations of support coordination as a service and have developed a strong understanding of its boundaries. As a result, we have established partnerships with mainstream agencies that specialize in addressing common issues outside the scope of support coordination. This collaborative approach ensures a seamless provision of support to our participants, while also providing them with access to specialized services that address their specific needs.    Transparency and Accountability – Absolutely, transparency and accountability are fundamental principles that guide our agency's approach to supporting individuals. Our commitment to transparency involves empowering those we support by providing them with all the necessary information to make informed decisions and take charge of their journey towards achieving their goals. Through this approach, we prioritize the needs and preferences of the individuals we support and ensure that all our actions and decisions are in their best interests. Our goal is to keep them informed every step of the way and work collaboratively towards their desired outcomes.    Communication is Key – Undoubtedly, effective communication with the individual we are supporting is the cornerstone of successful service delivery. Equally important, however, is the use of a communication style and method that the person is most comfortable with and can comprehend easily. That’s why we work with the people we support to build a communication plan, so that everyone is on the same page when it comes to the person’s preferences.   Leading From the Front – Effective Support Coordinators establish goals with the participant and then guide the care team from the front, ensuring all members are working towards the goals defined by the participant in a way that works for the participant. A support coordinator should keep the care team accountable to ensure continued effective communication, effective service provision, participant rights and effective reporting. The support coordinator should also be organising tools and strategies, to make the care team more effective. #ndis #supportcoordination #disability

We're excited to introduce the Linkedin community to our support coordination framework, RESPECT. Many professions such as social work and psychology have models of care, ethical guidelines, practice guidelines, research into evidence based best practice, and a host of other controls and guidelines. When looking at support coordination, there isn’t much beyond the NDIS operational guidelines and the occasional practice guidelines from NDIS that support coordinators can look to for a standard of approach. The emphasis is on the provider to generate appropriate training as opposed to the NDIS providing practice guidelines. The issue as we see it is there is a wide variance in engagement with evidence based best practice. To combat this issue, we have internally developed a framework for the delivery of support coordination that takes evidence based best practice and applies it in a meaningful, tangible way to support coordination. Our vision is to create a set of standards, tools, training, and modes of thinking to elevate support coordination service provision to the highest possible standard bringing it more into line with professional streams such as social work and case management. The core elements of the RESPECT Framework is that the person is the expert in their own lives and therefore the best person to determine goals for their own journey towards recovery. The role of the support coordinator is to make sure the person has all the information they need to make informed decisions about that journey, providing that information with a strength based, trauma informed lens. The support coordinator does this by using evidence-based tools and models when implementing practice. The objective is an overall improvement in the person’s wellbeing. We look forward to introducing you all to the RESPECT Framework in the coming weeks and months. #NDIS #disability #supportcoordination
