WEBINAR EVENT: “EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED – TACTICAL JOB HUNTING” Recently, Ms. Nguyen Phuong Mai, General Director of Groove Technology, was honored to participate in a webinar organized by Vietnamworks for young individuals facing numerous career uncertainties at a time when the job market in 2024 is encountering significant challenges. Under the theme "Tactical Job Hunting After Tet", Ms. Mai, alongside speakers from AceCook Vietnam, shared over 700 attendees across various professional levels and industries with passionate secrets culled from their "real-world" working journey. These ranged from planning short-term to long-term career strategies to mastering the art of conquering recruiters through CV screening and interview rounds. To take charge of one’s career journey, Ms. Mai Nguyen emphasized the principle of Agility, also one of the four core values in Groove Technology's 2.0 version. She stated: "To stay 'Agile', the four principles I've adhered to since graduating from university are:  ☑️ Always focus on creating value for the business  ☑️ Continuously learn and hone your skills  ☑️ Give more than you receive  ☑️ Always be a decent person. At the webinar, Ms. Mai Nguyen also guided how to outline a "perfect job hunt plan" from A to Z. A plan that might seem "expeditious" but serves as a launchpad towards a long-term career strategy. To conquer the recruiters in an interview, she also suggested several tips for making a deep and lasting impression that makes the interviewer can’t help but welcome you. Ms. Mai Nguyen advised being cautious when choosing a healthy work environment, dedicating oneself to creating value, and constantly "upgrading oneself" to remain a valuable, skilled, and heartful individual. This is her advice to the youth to maintain a proactive and calm stance, regardless of potential economic downturns and an increasingly fierce job market. [WEBINAR: THE ART OF CROSS-CULTURAL COMMUNICATION]   DO TECH PROFESSIONALS NEED TO CARE ABOUT CULTURE DIFFERENCES? Answer from most software developers would be: “Not quite”.    Reason: It seems hard to have misunderstandings among technology professionals when the technical discussions are mostly straightforward and in writing via emails, Confluence, Slack or chat box.    But is it true?    👉 In today's globalized and digitalized world, cross-cultural communication skills have become more essential to technology professionals than ever. As they often work in global virtual teams (GVTs), they must deal with differences across time zones, languages, cultures, and skill levels. The Vietnamese engineers burn themselves out to accommodate all requests from the onshore team (in the US for instance) because they have implied about their resource constraints, but the US team does not seem to be able to “read between the lines”. Does this scenario sound familiar? Putting aside the language barrier, that is one simple example of culture gaps in the GVTs.    👉 During the webinar “The Art of Cross-culture Communication” held on June 16th, 2023, Ms Mai Nguyen – General Director of Groove Technology, shared her experience of working in multinational companies, using one of the tools for decoding cultural differences: The Culture Map (Author: Erin Meyer), which explains how people from different cultures communicate, build trust, give feedback, and make decisions.    👉 With the inputs from other two panelists – Mr. Hung Nguyen – Delivery Manager from Elca, and Mr. Huy Le – Software Manager from netcompany, the webinar has delivered practical tips for dealing with culture differences, and at the same time emphasize that bridging the culture gap is not an absolute science.
