Podcast - Leaders in Aged Care, Episode 27 with Amanda Crook In this episode of the Leaders in Aged Care Podcast, we were delighted to welcome Amanda Crook, the CEO of Coolibah Care, a comprehensive care facility nestled in the serene locale of Mandurah, WA. Under Amanda's stewardship since her ascension to the CEO role in 2021, after initially joining the team as General Manager in 2017, Coolibah Care has continued to flourish, providing exemplary care to its 136 residents. Amanda's journey, marked by a transition from a general nursing role into aged care leadership, highlights a path of unexpected opportunities and growth within the sector. Amanda shared her insights into the nuanced choice of a career in aged care—a field that, for many, might not be the first preference but presents a wealth of untapped potential and fulfillment. She spoke candidly about her initial foray into aged care, driven more by circumstance than a deliberate choice, echoing a sentiment familiar to many in the nursing profession. This journey into aged care, as Amanda revealed, opened her eyes to the profound impact and meaningful relationships that define the sector, contrasting sharply with the transient nature of acute care settings. One of the focal points of our discussion was the culture and mission of Coolibah Care. Amanda emphasized the organization's dedication to meeting the needs of the local community, a mission that has not only guided her leadership but also solidified her commitment to the aged care sector. She highlighted the importance of having a meaningful professional life, the challenges and rewards of the job, and the intrinsic value of the day-to-day interactions with residents and staff. These elements, Amanda noted, are what make Coolibah Care a special place to work and what keeps her motivated to contribute positively to the lives of those in her care. Looking ahead, Amanda outlined her vision for the future of Coolibah Care, focusing on workforce development and responding to the evolving needs of the community. With the shadow of COVID-19 receding, there's a renewed opportunity to be proactive and forward-thinking. Amanda spoke about the significance of building a robust workforce capable of delivering high-quality home care services and the ongoing reforms in aged care. These challenges, she believes, are surmountable with a committed team and a clear focus on improvement and innovation. Amanda Crook's insights from our conversation underscore the complexity, challenges, and rewards of leading in the aged care sector. Her leadership at Coolibah Care exemplifies the impact that dedicated, compassionate individuals can have on improving the quality of life for the elderly, reshaping the industry's future, and inspiring the next generation of aged care professionals.

Today we mark the official opening of the Coolibah Care Training Hub, which has been made possible with funding from the State Government’s Regional Economic Development (RED) Grants Program. The Training Hub is located adjacent to the Coolibah Care Residential Facility and will be our primary resource to train and develop our professional nursing and support care teams. We would like to thank the Minister Don Punch MLA, Minister for Regional Development, Disability, Fisheries, Seniors & Ageing, Volunteering, for this support and also the Peel Development Commission which, through their RED Grants Program and made this possible.
