We provide collaborative, evidence-based care for people facing mental health challenges.

About us

Our multi-disciplinary team offers Psychiatrists, Clinical Psychologists, General Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, Registered Nurses, and Social Workers experienced in community treatment across all diagnoses and mental health concerns. We work collaboratively with a clients' family, loved ones, and treating team to ensure a consistent, evidence based approach. Clarity use several modalities including outreach (home based), clinic appointments, telehealth, and evidence based groups to deliver the most appropriate care and offer all clients a range of options. Recently, we have commenced contracts with several health funds that provide funding for our hospital substitution program. These are intensive programs for people with complex psychiatric issues who have a history of multiple hospital admissions and remain at risk of readmission. To get a first glimpse of what a Medicare Mental Health Centre looks and feels like, watch our short video!  Wellways is proud to lead four new centres in Rockhampton, Gladstone, Bundaberg, and the Sunshine Coast. Together with our partners from Clarity Health Care, we have built multidisciplinary teams of peer workers and clinicians who focus on the individual to understand their needs and personal goals fully.   The new services are funded by CCQ - Country to Coast QLD through the Australian Government’s PHN Program, and it is free; no Medicare card is required, and people don’t even need a referral or appointment. https://bit.ly/4in2cgB

It was an honour to attend the official opening of the new premises for the Rockhampton Medical Mental Health Centre. In collaboration with Wellways, we are looking forward to using the space to provide comprehensive mental health services that are tailored for each individual's recovery journey.

Country to Coast, QLD Chief Executive Julie Sturgess was delighted to welcome the Australian Government’s Assistant Minister for Mental Health and Suicide Prevention and Assistant Minister for Rural and Regional Health, The Hon. Emma McBride MP, to officially open new premises for the Rockhampton Medicare Mental Health Centre, supported by the Federal Labor candidate for Capricornia, Emily Mawson. Mayor Tony Williams from Rockhampton Regional Council was also on hand to support this important community service. Thank you also to Aunty Nicky Hatfield, Darumbal Elder, who welcomed us to Country this morning. Funded by Country to Coast, QLD, through the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care’s PHN Program, the centre has been operated by national community services provider, Wellways Australia (in partnership with Clarity Health Care), since mid-July 2024 on an interim site and has already supported community with free, walk-in short- and medium-term mental health support. Fully staffed by mental health clinicians and support workers, the Rockhampton Medicare Mental Health Centre is open to anyone over the age of 18, who is in distress or seeking mental health support, without the need for referral or appointment. ‘You don't need an appointment. You don't need a referral nor diagnosis. You don’t even need a Medicare card. You can walk in just as you are and you’ll likely be greeted by a peer worker, someone who's walked in your shoes, who's had their own personal experience of mental ill health and is ready to help,’ Ms Sturgess said. Thank you to Wellways Chief Executive Laura Collister, Clarity Health Care Chief Medical Officer, Dr Matthew Warden and the Rockhampton team who have worked so hard to transition services and clients to the new premises. ‘Navigating the health system can sometimes be overwhelming. If you are looking for mental health support for yourself or someone you care about, your local Medicare Mental Health Centres can provide on-the-spot advice and guidance about the next step,’ Ms Sturgess said.
