The NDIS gives people with disability more choice and control over
how, when and where their supports are provided, and gives certainty in
receiving the support they need over their lifetime.
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provides support
to people with disability, their families and carers. It is jointly governed
and funded by the Australian, and participating state and territory
governments.
The NDIS is designed to help people get the support they require
so their skills and independence improve over time. The NDIS offers all
Australian citizens peace of mind if they, their child or loved one is born
with or acquires a permanent and significant disability, they will get all the
necessary support.
The goal of the NDIS is to support people with a permanent and
significant disability that affects their ability to take part in everyday
activities. It does this by identifying what disability supports someone needs
in order to help achieve their goals in life. This may include greater
independence, involvement in the community, education, employment and health
and wellbeing. You can also control the
supports and services you purchase, by self-managing your NDIS plan.
The National Disability
Insurance Scheme promises to improve both the funding available for disability
services and the control that people living with disabilities have over the
design and delivery of their care. Supported Independent Living is assistance
and supervision of daily tasks to enhance the skills of an individual with a
permanent and significant disability to be able to live as independently as
possible.
SIL includes supports provided to an individual in their home. Supported
Independent Living is funded under the NDIS through a participant’s core supports,
but is not part of their flexible budget. SIL is a quoted, agreed upon support
item.
Achieving your goals is much easier when you have a strong support
system around you. Your professional support coordinator will become a key
member of your team that will work with you to develop the skills and
resilience you need to achieve your goal and become successful. Your support coordinator
will check in with you or your loved one at regular intervals to ensure you are
on the right track and developing in a way and at a pace that’s suitable for
you.

education course to finding a job, Disability Services
