If you are pricing a new steel fence around Moreton Bay you have probably run into both names, GramLine® and Colorbond®, and wondered whether they are the same thing. It is one of the questions we hear most at our Deception Bay warehouse. We stock both, so here is the plain-English version.

Colorbond® is a steel. It is the pre-painted steel made by BlueScope, and many products are made from it, including roofs, gutters, sheds and fences. GramLine® is a fencing system: a complete steel privacy fencing range of sheets, posts, rails, plinths and gate components made by Gram Engineering, who have been making steel privacy fencing since 1984.

What makes GramLine® different? The signature sawtooth infill sheet, introduced in 1996, adds rigidity to the panel as well as a distinctive look. The range runs to 31 colours, including heritage colours that are no longer in the standard Colorbond® palette, which matters when you are matching an older fence. The system parts fit together properly: lattice extensions, gate stiles, steel plinths and pool-compliant options. GramLine® steel privacy fencing also carries a 10-year written warranty against perforation by weathering.

When would you choose Colorbond® steel fencing? Plenty of our customers do. It is a household name and its colours match popular Colorbond® roofing and gutter colours exactly. Worth knowing: GramLine® offers the same palette under different names because colour names are trademarked. Colorbond® Monument®, for example, is called Coke in the GramLine® range, so matching your roof colour does not lock you into one brand of fence.
