Diluted Vinegar

Diluted vinegar is a great way to ensure your windows stay streak free. Chemical products often leave residue behind, making it harder for you to scrub away all those smudges left behind. Use a 50/50 solution of vinegar and water in a spray bottle for best results. Use this after you have scrubbed any grime off the windows.

Newspaper Buffing

Paper towel or even a linen towel will leave behind bits of fluff and fibres on your previously clean window. Instead of wiping your windows dry with a towel, try using some newspaper. Simply tear off a sheet, scrunch it into a ball and use it to scrub all the smudges and streak lines out of your window. Once the newspaper is fairly wet, replace it for a fresh piece and keep buffing. If the newspaper is too wet, it may start to tear and stick to your glass. Do this only after the window has been washed clean.

Soap Free Scrubs

If your glass is particularly dirty, you might be tempted to scrub it first using soap. Try to avoid using soap due to the residue it leaves. Instead, use a mix of vinegar and bicarbonate to get out any stubborn window stains, or hose off your windows using reasonable water pressure to wash away any dirt and dust. If you really feel like you need soap, try a small amount of dishwashing liquid rather than commercial window sprays.

Consider Distilled Water

Most tap water is considered ‘hard’ water, which means its heavy with minerals. This can leave marks on your windows and glass as the water dries. Try using distilled water when cleaning your windows for a superior shine.
