About Mendelsohn Dental
Established January 2012
Mendelsohn Dental has recently opened in the heart of Subiaco.
We are a family orientated dental surgery with a focus on all aspects of general dentistry from cosmetic porcelain veneers, teeth whitening and inlays to oral surgery and implant dentistry. Have your old grey fillings replaced with computer designed ceramic restorations that will transform your smile.
Dental Implants
While Many Dentists restore implants and refer patients off to someone else to have the actual implant placed here at Mendelsohn Dental we are equipped to perform every stage of the implant process all in the one place. This means you have the same dentist looking after you for every stage of your treatment.
Veneers are very thin pieces of specially shaped porcelain matched to the ideal colour and contours for your teeth. They are bonded to your existing tooth surface to improve the appearance of your smile.
Veneers can be used to change the shape, colour, spacing, alignment, length, proportion and shape of your teeth helping you achieve the smile you have always wanted.
Apart from improving the appearance of your smile, veneers have the added benefit of being cheaper and simpler than crowns and they will not decay or stain.
Tooth Whitening
Mendelsohn Dental now have the Worlds Fastest Tooth Whitening System. Perfect for your wedding day or just to enhance and brighten your smile.
Teeth may become discoloured for a number of reasons including;
Smoking
The natural act of ageing
A tooth which is damaged by trauma
Drinking tea, coffee and red wine
The laws regarding tooth whiting have recently changed and we are now providing our patients with state of the art “in-office”whitening which whitens and brightens your smile in one single appointment as well as providing the strongest “home whitening” system legally available in Western Australia. This system gives great results to improve the appearance of your smile.
Oral Surgery
Dr Mendelsohn has undergone extensive training in minor oral surgery procedures. His clinic is equipped for anything from wisdom tooth extractions and biopsies to bone grafting and implant dentistry.
All these procedures can be done under varying levels of sedation including I.V. sedation where a visiting anaesthetist comes to administer medications to help reduce anxiety and help the appointment go by much faster and easier. For more information regarding the various types of sedation we offer see our “sedation” page.
So why do people get their wisdom teeth taken out?
Not everyone needs their wisdom teeth taken out and your dentist can take a quick x-ray to assess your individual case. In many cases there may not be enough room for the wisdom teeth in the jaws.
When this happens the teeth may erupt at the wrong angle or not fully erupt. This can cause damage to the adjacent teeth or cause an infection due to the tooth being partially covered in the gum and unable to be properly cleaned. In these cases having the teeth removed before there is a problem can avoid potential pain and damage.
Sedation
Sedation is a process used to achieve a relaxed, easy and calm state by using sedative medications. It is commonly thought that when sedated you are asleep but in fact you do not sleep at all during the procedure. The sedative may put you in a sleepy state and cause you to have very little memory of the procedure.
Sedation dentistry, also commonly called sleep dentistry or twilight dentistry, is becoming a popular choice for patients who are anxious or looking to have extensive work done in one appointment. There are different types of sedation that we use depending on your specific needs.
Most people don’t require any sedation or just mild oral sedation but we have many options including nitrous oxide (laughing gas), tablets, inhalation anaesthetics or intravenous sedation where a visiting doctor administers medications that remove anxiety and make you sleepy.
There are many options for sedation and if this is something you are considering then the best thing to do is make an appointment to discuss your options.
Crown and Bridge
Crowns and Bridges area a great way of improving the strength and function of your existing teeth.
A Crown (commonly called a “cap”) is a precisely made restoration usually made from ceramic or metal. The existing tooth is prepared and shaped then the Crown is placed over the top. This gives the tooth strength, durability and a great appearance. Crowns are often used to strengthen weak teeth or teeth with very large fillings but can also be used to improve the appearance of a tooth by changing the colour, position or shape.
A Bridge is similar to a Crown but used to replace missing teeth. Bridges are a fantastic option to replace one, two or even more teeth next to each other. Unlike an Implant, which is free standing, a Bridge is attached to the teeth on either side.
To discuss the options for your individual case or to learn more about which option is best for you, call us and make an appointment.
What is CEREC?
CEREC is a computer aided design system used to make high quality ceramic restorations in one visit. Once the tooth has been prepared by the dentist, a three dimentional camera creates an image of the tooth. From there a sophisticated milling machine takes a block of ceramic and mills a precisely fitting restoration. The result is a life-like restoration that looks and feels like nature intended.
