Obedience Training

10/30/2012 Sitdropstay’s obedience training will empower you to have control of your dog and create the behaviour you expect from them, in all situations. We offer a simple and natural approach that both empowers you and respects your dogs dignity, while helping to maintain their calm, stable natural state of mind. You will be amazed at how quickly your dog will becomes willing to do what you ask. Let us show you how to communicate with your dog naturally and easily and achieve the relationship and behaviour you have always wanted.

We understand that most people don’t expect their dog to perform fancy exercises or tricks but simply want a balanced, happy and well behaved dog who listens and fits in with their lifestyle! Regular dog obedience training rarely corrects behaviour problems and unless practiced correctly, does not address the core issue; your leadership and the energy you project to your dog. Unless you want a competition dog, most modern obedience training is ineffective, irrelevant and even counterproductive, because it focuses on teaching your dog to do what is really just tricks to get a treat or toy, often inadvertently rewarding excitable and demanding behaviour. Merely teaching your dog to perform tricks for food does not fulfill your dog, and is disempowering for both of you, whilst being harsh on your dog creates mistrust and lacks understanding. Your Sitdropstay Dog Trainer will discuss with you the options that are most suitable for your particular dog and needs and then let you decide which methods “you” would like to use.

A dog that is not stable and under effective control must have its freedom limited to keep it safe in our society. Therefore establishing leadership and control allows your dog more freedom to be a part of your life. Whilst ‘positive only’ and treat based training is well meaning, it is science/mental based and does not acknowledge or understand the deeper and more fulfilling communication and understanding that is possible between human and dog through energy, emotion and heart. Until as dog trainers/behaviourists we truly understand the interconnection and interplay of consciousness, mind and energy between dogs and humans, we are limited to using treats, clickers, toys or fear to teach and shape their minds to perform unnatural behaviour that we as humans want. This limits our connection to them to a mental one, and not the deeper connection we are longing for with our dogs.

What should you expect from your dog?

Your dog should: enter your home calmly and respectfully, understand boundaries within the home and go to it’s bed or mat and stay there if asked, stay away from guests until invited to approach calmly, be quiet when asked, not demand anything from you, walk calmly by your side (not in front or pulling) and not react to other dogs or people, not jump on anyone, understand a free or play command and come back when called and not be aggressive to other dogs or people. Above all you should be able to influence your dogs behaviour and state of mind in all situations and they should always trust and respect you as their pack leader.

So How Does it Work?

One of our Dog Training Specialists will come to your home, or wherever you need them and show you how to create an obedient and well mannered dog in all situations. Most family dogs only require one or two consults depending on how far you would like to go. For maximum results we suggest an initial two hour consult and then a follow up 90 minute consult after two to four weeks. Further 90 minute advanced consults are also available if required.

Puppy Training

Your local Sitdropstay consultant can come to your home to educate and help you create a training system to suit your individual puppy, lifestyle and needs. Behavioural training can start from as early as eight weeks of age. We believe puppies need leadership and parameters as well as affection, fun and exercise in order to mature into happy and well behaved members of your family.
