Non-iPhone users, have you felt left out of all the photo sharing fun that your friends have been having? Seen them at parties taking snaps, and spending a good part of the night deciding whether they look better in Sutro or Toaster? Don’t worry, you might soon find yourself in the addictive world of tagging, filters and hash-tags. Nokia are pushing hard to get Instagram to come on board with non-iPhone devices, but it isn’t known yet whether Facebook will release the rights. They’ve already banned the use of ‘Insta’ or ‘Gram’ in the names of any competitor apps, so it seems they may be gearing up for the Windows release in the near future. Can’t wait that long to start sharing your selfies? Thanks to a French developer, an app called 6tag is now available on Windows devices that allows users to use almost all of the same filters as Instagram, as well as share their snaps to Facebook, Tumblr and Flickr. Despite the good news, there are still some major privacy concerns related to the new app. 6tag doesn’t state its privacy policy anywhere on its app, which is not only a concern for users, but also a violation of Windows Phone App Certification Policies. The only information that can be found relating to privacy, is that user names and authentication information are stored and sent to the apps servers in France. Should users be concerned about the use of their photos and videos? 6tag are yet to comment. If you are concerned about the use of your content, perhaps hang out for the #realdeal. What will it mean for businesses if Instagram becomes available on Windows? Despite it having the smallest market share of the three main phone devices, Windows has experienced the biggest growth in the last financial year, thanks to the release of the new Nokia smartphone. As Apple customers become increasingly dissatisfied, this number is sure to keep growing. This presents a whole new opportunity for businesses that rely heavily on Instagram for their social media presence. Being able to tap into the Windows market, on top of the iOS and android market will enable them to reach a whole new group of customers.
